Augusta Declares August 4 "Marcus MJ Curry Day" After Peach Jam Title

Marcus “MJ” Curry Jr.’s remarkable summer reached another milestone on Tuesday as the City of Augusta officially declared August 4, 2026, as “Marcus ‘MJ’ Curry Day,” recognizing one of the nation’s premier Class of 2027 basketball prospects for his accomplishments on the court, in the classroom, and throughout the community. Mayor Garnett Johnson presented the proclamation during an Augusta Commission meeting, honoring Curry’s continued impact as both a student-athlete and ambassador for his hometown.

The honor comes after a summer that elevated Curry’s national profile. The Grayson High School guard helped lead the Florida Rebels to their first-ever Nike EYBL Peach Jam championship, earning the first Peach Jam title of his own career. The victory carried extra meaning, as the prestigious tournament is held annually in the Augusta area, allowing Curry to capture one of grassroots basketball’s biggest prizes in front of family, friends, and his hometown community.

Beyond his success on the hardwood, Curry was also recognized for maintaining a 3.7 GPA, a reflection of his commitment to excellence both academically and athletically. The city’s proclamation celebrated not only his basketball achievements but also the way he represents Augusta on a national stage.

Curry acknowledged the recognition shortly after receiving the proclamation, expressing gratitude while making it clear his journey is far from over.

“August 4th is officially ‘MJ Curry Day’ in Augusta, Ga! Imagine that!! I really thank God for all he has done! More work to do and more things to accomplish.”

Already regarded as one of the top guards in the Class of 2027, Curry continues to build a résumé that includes a Peach Jam championship, national recruiting recognition, and now an official day in his hometown.
